Art Show Pays Homage to Tranquil Yukon Scenery

A new art exhibit opening in April at the Yukon Artists at Work gallery celebrates the peace that comes with spending time in nature; in particular, in the Yukon’s natural spaces. The show, featuring works by watercolour painter Doug Rutherford, runs from April 3-25, 2025. Because April 3rd is a holiday, the official opening will come a week later, on April 10th from 5-7 pm, corresponding with that month’s First Friday art crawl in downtown Whitehorse.

“Much has been written about the relationship between health and nature,” Rutherford says. Spending time in wild spaces has been shown to significantly affect physical health, and boost mental health, even during a short walk or a scenic drive.”

“The Yukon has been blessed with a variety of scenic places. Some are found after a lengthy drive, while others can be spotted by simply walking out your door. All but one of the views in this collection are accessible from the road,” Rutherford adds.

Rutherford invites you to enjoy the works in this collection, and he hopes they encourage you to find the scenic spot that grants you peace.
